Civilisation – an Ode to Hollywood

Sinister dexter, sinister dexter
Trampling bootmarks, galloping hoof beats
Sinister dexter, sinister dexter
The legion is marching, the empire advancing
Sinister dexter, sinister dexter
Carve out a straight path, crushing the skull-stones
Marching to progress, forget the faint-hearted
Sinister dexter, sinister dexter
Serial Saviours, culling the bad guys
close up the portal, repel the invaders
Sinister dexter, sinister dexter
Avenge the avengers, political favour
sweeps away scruples under the carpet
buries the hatchet (deep in the flesh-wound)
Sinister dexter, sinister dexter
Call on the good guys to rescue the poor guys
with reasonable force – why
baulk at the cost they
haven’t a choice – may
be they know something that we don’t imagine
Sinister dexter, sinister dexter
Significant research has found that the people
would like stuff to happen and don’t really care how
you reached that conclusion
Sinister dexter, sinister dexter
Sinister dexter, sinister dexter
I am my ambition, forgetting all nature
I gave way to nurture, learned what I could now
to justify slaughter in silver screen make-over
beauty in deadly mode of delivery
Sinister dexter, sinister dexter
sinister dexter, sinister dexter
sinister dexter, sinister dexter
sinister dexter, sinister dexter
sinister dexter, sinister dexter
sinister dexter, sinister dexter

can’t seem to get this insistent drum-beat
out of my head-space
can’t seem to get this runaway rogue-force
bent on destruction
benevolent mayhem
can’t get this music
to stop.

Wow… I actually felt like that when I went to see a movie recently… mayhem and chaos that they label “Gritty Realism” is so fashionable… but it just feels like a relentless, drowning beat to me. Good writing, Jill.
